Honestly my only fav meal ration were red bean soup and glutinous rice with chicken, as it at least remind me of rice dumplings

Singaporean here. theres always a platoon mate that tries to exchange his lesser tasty ration with your better ones (e.g. his nonya noodles for your glutinous rice) and act like he is giving you the good food and you owe him a kindness (kill 2 birds with 1 stone, getting the better food and makes you feel you owe him kindness). middle finger for these people.

Hello Steve, one of the things we do is to make "sponge cakes" by adding some water into the butter or chocolate biscuits and let it soak it all up before consuming.

During my last few weeks in the armed forces (SAF), we played card games where my friends take turns upping the ante by throwing various components of the MRE(s) into a mess tin.
The loser eats everything.
My friend (the loser) was hospitalised from eating that vile mix.
Singapore conscripts are quite spoiled and would complain alot about our army rations. We train overseas alot and one of those places is Thailand. Outfield some prefer to bring their own food instead of the rations, and when we get back to camp some of them would just throw perfectly fine rations into the bin. And then the Thai soldiers would rummage thru the bins to collect our rations.
