I guest Bangkok plans of bring in more foreigner to fill the building and shop at the high end malls. I don't see the Thais keeping these places afloat with the current living wage.

Movenpick was originally the Bangkok Hilton in the 80's and it was luxury plus. Good thing I had an embassy discount. Hotel was later the Swissotel where the actor David Carradine was found died, presumed suicide.

Went to the embassy for work in 2018 was a fab building and a very tranquil place in the centre of BKK. the embassy had so much character within the the buildings there was even a pool for staff to use. It did look a bit run down inside as by then they knew it had been sold
420 million british pounds … wow , makes you wonder how much profit they made on that ! Kinda confusing though , I thought foreign entities could not own land/ real estate in Thailand , right 🤔 ? Or are embassies exempted from that law !

The new building looks hideous, such a shame to see the beautiful British Embassy go and be replaced by this monstrosity. As if Bangkok doesn't have enough malls already!
Selling the British Embassy an absolute disgrace. The government cares nothing for our heritage. The UK is two trillion pounds in debt, they probably spent the proceeds of the embassy in an afternoon. Terrible.
